Laptops are constantly being spewed out by reputable brand manufacturers and are increasingly packed with more features that result in the last model being outdated by the speed of light. So when things are so rapidly evolving it is wiser to invest in a cheap laptop that suits your purpose without having to shell out mega bucks to buy a latest version only to find out it is outdated and replaced by something even jazzier the next instant. One of the biggest mistakes we make in buying a cheap laptop is that we straight out go and buy what is the cheapest. But what is of import here is the fact that if you buy something that cheap, it is because it doesn’t have half of the features or they use outdated technology that will have you buying a new one soon or coughing up to accessorize so instead invest a little more into buying a laptop and you can have it for a minimum of 3-4 years. The first thing that you will no doubt need to check is the processor or CPU. Most laptops today come with Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core Duo chipset and these are the best. The second most important component is the RAM because that will be running all your applications and you will need a minimum of 1 GB of RAM, the more, the better so don’t skimp if you have to invest in some extra RAM and believe me it will be totally worth the price you pay. All the memory and fast processing will come to a stop if you don’t have a long battery life and if you need to stop and recharge every hour it defeats the purpose of a laptop. The Intel Core 2 Duo gives about 4-5 hours of battery life but there are various factors like wireless usage that also effect battery life. A good notebook should give you 3-6 hours of unerring battery. AMD’s Turion is also good but not as good as the Core Duo chips. Hard disk space is another necessity that is needed to store data and keep your computer running. If you don’t store large files like images and media then a 60-80 GB hard drive is ok. There are many tradeoffs you will have to make do with if you are considering a heap computer, not that they are impossible to live with but you must be careful when you invest in one. Buying a cheap laptop does not equal buying a bad laptop, there are many manufacturers that offer rebates on factory seconds or returned pieces and be sure to grab them because sometimes they don’t even have any flaws and could be brand new. In yet other cases, there are laptop vendors that buy laptops in bulk and thus can offer discounts too. You just have to shop around and find the best buy, of not in a brick-and-mortar store, there are many online stores offering good cheap laptops. Just be sure to buy from a reputed vendor. |
